Specialized Agencies
Specialized Agencies
Dear Delegates,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Specialized Agencies of Harvard National Model United Nations 2010. My name is Ricky Hanzich and I will be your Under-Secretary-General for four days of productive debate, heart-pumping crises, and vigorous resolution writing. I sincerely hope that you will not only thoroughly enjoy your experience at HNMUN, but that you leave inspired to make a tangible difference in the international community. Although we will be hosting a wide range of committees, I know that each of our nine outstanding simulations provide unique learning opportunities. We are excited to offer three Security Councils (past, present, and future), the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, a Group of Twenty Summit for Energy Infrastructure Reform, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization of 1961, la Junta Extraordinaria del Gabinete Mexicano (run entirely in Spanish), and a Joint Crisis Cabinet pitting Indian Rebels against the British Cabinet in 1857. Topics range from battling drug cartels to preventing nuclear war and I know that each and every committee will be action packed.
In the intervening moments between explosions and assassination attempts, I intend on getting to know as many of you as possible in February, but for now I’ll quickly tell you a little about myself. I am originally from Orange County, California and actually did not see snowfall until I began at Harvard. I am now a Junior living in Eliot House (along the Charles River). When I am not busy with HNMUN, Harvard Model United Nations (our high school conference), or Harvard WorldMUN (taking place in Taipei this year), I organize community service events as the Political Director for the Harvard College Democrats, play basketball and football intramurals, and sprint to class. I am concentrating in Government with a secondary in Health Policy and a language citation in Spanish. Fortunately, I have found that many of my academic interests have crossed paths with the intriguing committees and topics of HNMUN 2010.
I have had the pleasure of reading the outstanding study guides that your Directors have put countless hours into over the summer and fall. They have laid the foundation for your better understanding of the issues at hand and created the intellectual framework necessary to continue your own research on your country’s policies or character’s motivations. Whether you are a Security Council ambassador in 2028, un oficial del Gabinete Mexicano, or a defense minister of NATO in 1961, be prepared to experience the most intense, exhilarating, and realistic simulations HNMUN 2010 has to offer. Your Director and Assistant Directors will work tirelessly, as they have done for many months, to ensure that you have a fantastic time in February.
If you have questions or concerns at any point before, during, or after the conference, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best of good luck with your studies and I truly cannot wait to see you all at HNMUN 2010.
Sincerely,
Ricky M. Hanzich
