How to Apply: Individual
How to Apply: Individual
If you are interested in attending HNMUN as an individual delegate, you will need to apply either to our unique Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Program or to our special application crisis committees. Please note that delegations with less than six students are ineligible to receive a country assignment; therefore, each student, beyond going through the first two steps of the registration system, must also apply to the NGO Program or crisis committees.
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Program
HNMUN 2011 NGO Program Application - Will be available in September
The NGO Program is unique to HNMUN and is a fantastic opportunity for delegates to experience a wide range of issues and committees across the conference. Each NGO is allowed to visit any committee within the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the Regional Bodies. NGOs have the option of working in a single committee or in several committees during the conference, depending on your personal comfort level and on the relevance of your NGO to the topic areas being discussed. NGOs have no voting status, but other than that, they have the same rights as any other delegate in the committee: NGOs may make speeches, participate in caucus, and lend their expertise to formulating resolutions.
Applications for the NGO Program will be available in the Content Library area of the website and are due to NGO@hnmun.org by no later than 12 November 2010. The US$70 registration fee is due by 12 November 2010 and the US$70 delegate fee, should the application be selected, is due by 1 December 2010. Assignments for the NGO Program will be announced in late November. Please note that in addition to submitting the supplemental application, the delegate must also register online through our general conference application.
Please also note that if you are part of a delegation of less than 6 students, you are ineligible to apply for a country assignment and may therefore apply for spots on the NGO Program. However, space in the NGO Program is limited, and we give priority to delegates applying as individuals. Therefore, we highly encourage you to find at least 6 delegates, in order to qualify for a country assignment.
Thank you for your interest in the NGO Program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Katherine P. R. Medler, Under-Secretary-General for the Economic and Social Council & Regional Bodies, at info@hnmun.org.
Crisis Committees in the Specialized Agencies
Individuals are also welcome to apply to our innovative continual crisis committees in the Specialized Agencies. These spots are usually reserved for delegates with more MUN experience. HNMUN 2011 offers application spots on five continual crisis committees:
- Committee for State Security (KGB): Secret intel, covert operations, and counter-intelligence will define your experience as a member of the KGB as you struggle to maintain Soviet supremacy in the latter stages of the 20th century. You must ensure that covert Soviet operations in Afghanistan prevail, while continuing to expand socialism in other continents. From dealing with domestic politics to influencing US elections as Carter seeks reelection, you will be faced with a number of unique challenges. Comrades, Brezhnev is counting on You.
- Taipei Convention of 2025: In fifteen years, how will political and economic dynamics have changed in East Asia and in the Asia-Pacific? The answer lies with you. Unprecedented inflation rates, unemployment levels, and peasant riotings will force you to make some severely difficult decisions that will have reverberating impacts in the Taiwan Strait and across the Pacific. Will it be in the interests of the Republic of China to declare its de jure independence from the mainland?
- South African State Security Council: Civil war, domestic unrest, trade embargoes, nuclear weapons. The South African State Security Council will exclusively formulate and execute national security policy. Capetown, ANC riots, Apartheid, Angolan Civil War, Nelson Mandela. Domestic and international issues will challenge delegates through crisis upon crisis. It is the year 1980 and these are turbulent times. The SASSC must act quickly and effectively to mitigate civil unrest and ameliorate South Africa’s relations with the rest of the world.
- Joint Cabinet Crisis – The Mexican-American War: This is the first ever Bilingual Joint Cabinet Crisis. The Mexican Cabinet will be run entirely in Spanish, while the American Cabinet will be conducted in English. Bienvenido and Welcome! In the two-year Mexican-American War, beginning in 1844, Mexico lost more than half of its territory to America. “Manifest Destiny,” guerilla warfare, coup d’état, and domestic and international political turmoil will feature prominently in this unprecedented JCC.
Applications for the crisis committees are available in the Content Library area of the website and are due to specapp@hnmun.org by no later than 12 November 2010. The US$70 registration fee is due by 12 November 2010 and the US$70 delegate fee, should the application be selected, is due by 1 December 2010. Assignments for the crisis committees will be announced in late November. Please note that in addition to submitting the supplemental application, the delegate must also register online through our general conference application, either as an individual or as part of a larger delegation.
Thank you for your interest in our crisis committees. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jaymin Kim, Under-Secretary-General for the Specialized Agencies, at info@hnmun.org.
