HNMUN 2010: International Photo Contest
When somebody mentions the United Nations, what image comes to your mind? Most people conjure up an image of the UN Headquarters in New York City, the dominant world powers convening in the Security Council, UN peacekeeping troops deployed in conflict areas, or for those who love history, an image of Woodrow Wilson’s original League of Nations. Yet, the United Nations is more than these preconceived ideas of it as an institution. When one considers how the United Nations might be portrayed in local communities around the world, we get a much more concrete, complex, and convincing image of the powerful organization.
Given that the HNMUN 2010 keynote speaker, Mr. Bonian Golmohammadi, is the Secretary-General of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and that our charitable venture partners with Millennium Promise, the Delegate Relations staff is pleased to announce our inaugural International Photo Contest. This contest invites all delegations attending HNMUN 2010 to share their interpretation of the presence of the United Nations and international relations in action in their communities with fellow delegates. Given the diversity of all of you, this contest is intended to facilitate dialogue and learning within and among delegations before and during conference.
Submission Requirements
Delegations are requested to submit photos that, according to them, best represent the presence of the United Nations in their community, or portrays the relationship between the people and the United Nations in their community. For instance, representation of a UN building, a UN program, a UN worker, an objective of the UN, or a value embodied by the UN are all appropriate photo themes.
Any delegation attending HNMUN 2010 is welcome to submit up to two photographs. Submissions must be sent to delrel@hnmun.org by Monday, 1 February 2010 and must include:
- Name of delegation
- Up to two photographs in .jpg format
- The location of where the picture was taken, a title, and a brief caption of no more than 50 words.
By sending these photographs, delegates give permission to HNMUN 2010 to print and use them before, during, and after the 2010 conference on our website (http://hnmun.org/the-delegate/), in print at conference, and in conference publications.
Recognition & Awards
Top submissions, as determined by the Delegate Relations Staff, will be displayed at the Business Booths around the Boston Park Plaza Hotel during the conference. The top photo and six honorable mentions from each continent, as determined by Mr. Bonian Golmohammadi, the HNMUN 2010 keynote speaker and Secretary-General of the World Federation of United Nations Associations, and April Qian, Secretary-General of HNMUN 2010, will be displayed at the Friday night Delegate Cocktail Hour. The respective delegations of these top submissions will be acknowledged during the Closing Ceremonies.
