Topic Summary
Delightful delegates, welcome to the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General for HNMUN 2025! Given that we are an Ad-Hoc committee, the topic will not be revealed until the beginning of the conference. The Ad-Hoc is mysterious, and thus challenging. This committee will be home to some of the most high-caliber debate on the circuit: You will need exceptional knowledge and creativity to succeed. We have the utmost faith in you all. Good luck, delegates.
Directors’ Letter
Greetings, Delegates!
We could not be more excited to welcome you all to the Ad Hoc Committees of the Secretary-General and Director-General for Harvard National Model United Nations 2025!
First, we have Calvin Osborne, a senior at Harvard College studying a joint concentration in mathematics and philosophy. Calvin was raised in Chicago, Illinois—but by Chicago, he really means the suburbs about an hour north of Chicago. If you know anything about Calvin, it is probably that he competes in a lot of Ad Hoc committees—at the time of writing this letter at the end of his junior year, he has competed in thirteen(!)—as well as directing and then crisis directing Harvard’s Ad Hoc committee the last two years (go the Booga family!). Outside of competing, Calvin is the Secretary-General of Harvard Model United Nations (Harvard’s high school conference).
Second, we have Steven Giraldo, a junior at Harvard College studying social studies with a secondary in statistics. Although Steven was born and raised in Colombia, he has been privileged to call Miami his home for eight years before finding himself in the vibrant city of Boston. At Harvard, Steven is heavily involved in Model United Nations, serving as the Chief of Staff for Harvard Intercollegiate Model United Nations (Harvard’s travel team), where he gets to plan the team’s bonding events. Outside of Model United Nations, Steven is an opinion writer for The Harvard Crimson’s editorial board, and he gives tours for Crimson Key.
Third, we have Addison Gaddy, a sophomore at Harvard College studying a joint concentration in government and romance languages and literature. Addy is from the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, where she was first introduced to Model United Nations. Since her initial introduction to Model United Nations, Addy has spent—a little too much!—of her time on Model United Nations activities, currently serving as the Director of Training for the General Assembly for Intercollegiate Model United Nations (Harvard’s travel team) and the Under-Secretary-General for Regional and Specialized Bodies for Harvard Model United Nations (Harvard’s high school conference). Outside of Model United Nations, Addy is involved in Harvard’s Undergraduate Consulting in Business and the Environment, as well as in various affinity groups. In her downtime, Addy enjoys hanging out with her friends, eating frozen yogurt (tart yogurt, with chocolate chips and blueberries), scrolling through TikTok, and and listening to music (69,047 minutes worth in 2023, also, Supercut by Lorde is the best song ever).
With introductions out of the way, we could not be more excited to welcome you all to Harvard National Model United Nations’ Ad Hoc Committees! In the spirit of the Ad Hoc, this year, we will be offering the highest caliber of challenge and innovation in our committees. While we were excited to offer the collegiate circuit’s first double delegate crisis Ad Hoc committee and our first General Assembly Ad Hoc committee last year, this year will be even bigger and better than the last. As always, unparalleled teamwork, communication, and cooperation will be essential for success.
We implore that each delegate come into this committee with the expectation that this will be one of the most dynamic experiences that they could imagine for Model United Nations. We have been working with this team, and the Secretariat, for over a year to craft this committee, and we could not be more committed to ensuring its success. But—keep in mind!—this committee is not for the faint of heart: Come in ready for your skills as a delegate to be tested like never before.
With all this being said, we cannot wait to meet you all soon at the beginning of next year—you are bound for a memorable experience! Safe travels—[REDACTED]—and with the best of luck,
