Our Charity Partner
HNMUN is proud to announce the Miracle Foundation as our charity partner for the seventy-first iteration of the conference. All charity donations will go toward supporting the mission of the Miracle Foundation.
There are an estimated 7 million children worldwide living in orphanages and foster care, yet 80% of them have a living parent who can care for them with the right support. Poverty is the primary reason these children are placed in institutions where they long for the love and care that only a family can give. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing home, yet millions are still separated from their families.
Miracle Foundation is an international organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children by reuniting them with their families and working to prevent family separation. For over 24 years, they have partnered with governments and local communities across India to do this vital work. They have directly supported more than 50,000 children. Now working in India, Africa and the United States, they are committed to making their vision of a Family for Every Child in Our Lifetime a reality.
Sumit’s Story
Meet Sumit, an 11-year-old boy from a small tribal community in Lateher, Jharkhand, one of the poorest states in India. When Sumit was just 8 years old, tragedy struck—the sudden loss of his father left his family in crisis. His mother, working as a laborer, faced an impossible situation. Despite her efforts, the burden of providing for Sumit and his younger sisters, Shanaya and Sanita, became too heavy to bear. In a heartbreaking decision, Sumit was sent to an orphanage, while his sisters were taken in by relatives who couldn’t afford to care for them all.
This is an all-too-common story for families in Jharkhand, where poverty often forces difficult choices. Miracle Foundation began working in the region, committed to strengthening families and reuniting children with their loved ones. It was then that Sumit’s family was identified as one in need of support.
Our team evaluated Sumit's family using the comprehensive Thrive Scale assessment and uncovered the deep socio-economic challenges they faced. While finances were the most pressing issue, our social workers saw that healing would require more than just financial assistance—it would take emotional support and long-term stability to bring Sumit home for good.
Working closely with Sumit's mother, we provided counseling to help her overcome her fears about being unable to provide for him again. Slowly, with emotional support, their bond was rebuilt, and hope began to return. We helped enroll Sumit’s mother in a local healthcare program and secured a government assistance card, ensuring food security for the family. We also connected her with a self-help group in her community, giving her a support system and a path toward financial independence.
The family was provided with goats to create a sustainable income. Additionally, Sumit’s education was sponsored, easing the financial strain and ensuring he could continue his studies. Meanwhile, Sumit’s sisters Shanaya and Sarita were brought back home, and they are now enrolled in a local school so the family can be together once again.
Work is also underway to repair their home after being delayed due to financial struggles. Sumit’s mother is committed to creating a safe, stable home for her children, and with the support she’s received, that dream is becoming a reality.
Today, Sumit is back where he belongs—home with his family. Each morning, he heads off to school, his backpack slung over his shoulder, filled with excitement for the future. His mother watches proudly, knowing that her children are finally where they are meant to be—together.
Sumit’s story is more than just a reunion—it’s a restoration of hope, stability, and love for an entire family.
Bina’s Story
Bina, a resilient mother from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has always been determined to provide the best life possible for her three sons. Despite facing overwhelming challenges, her love and commitment to her children never faltered. When her husband suddenly passed away, Bina's world was turned upside down. Left to support her family alone, she worked hard to make ends meet, but the severe economic hardships proved too much. In a heartbreaking decision, she placed her children in an orphanage, hoping they would find the stability and education she could no longer provide.
When Miracle Foundation began working to reunite children in orphanages with their families, Bina's three sons were desperate to go home to their mother. Through honest, heartfelt conversations, it became clear that Bina longed to have her boys home again as well but was worried she could not provide for them.
We worked closely with Bina, offering her counseling on parenting skills and adolescent care, and helped her build relationships within the community. Slowly, she reconnected with her sons, and their family bond grew stronger each day. But emotional support was only one piece of the puzzle. To ensure long-term stability, we helped Bina establish a sustainable livelihood. We introduced her to innovative farming techniques and provided her with a water motor, reducing her dependency on unpredictable rainfall. With guidance from neighboring farmers and support from the Village Sarpanch, Bina's crop yields improved, giving her family the financial stability they so desperately needed.
In addition, she was connected to a monthly government assistance program, which provided her with an extra layer of security that helped ease her burdens. By helping rebuild her home, we gave the family a stable place to live where her boys could come back home.
When the day finally came for her sons to return home, it was a moment filled with joy and hope. Once reunited with their mother, the three brothers returned to their studies with renewed focus. With additional support, including a tablet and a bicycle, their educational opportunities expanded, and their future now looked brighter than ever.
Bina's story is a powerful reminder of the strength that lies in a mother's love and the incredible impact that community support can have.
