Director’s Cut

Sony Board of Directors, 2015

Director: Janaysa Dorcin | Crisis Director: Asher Montgomery

Topic Summary

The year is 2015, and in the past few months, the Guardians of Peace have maliciously stolen confidential data from Sony Pictures. The reason? Sony’s planned release of The Interview, a movie that isn’t very friendly to North Korea. In fact, the movie centers on a scheme between the United States and South Korea to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. With sensitive information being leaked by the hackers, threats of terrorism on the rise, and employees growing increasingly dissatisfied with the company, you are forced to confront the cybersecurity issues they face head on; you must decide how to best protect the company’s, and America’s, interests.

As an eclectic group of Sony executives and U.S. government officials, you must guide Sony Pictures through these hacks. It won’t be easy though. The hackers' demands are ever-changing and always more complex than they seem, and a wrong move could mean the end of Sony Pictures as we know it. Will you be able to overcome the threat of a national emergency, or will Sony crumble at the hands of a foreign adversary?

Director’s Letter

Hello Delegates!

My name is Janaysa Dorcin and I am honored to serve as your director for the 71st iteration of Harvard National Model United Nations!

I’m a sophomore at Harvard, concentrating in Government with a potential secondary in Educational Studiestudies. I’m originally from the oh-so-great Miami, Florida, and my family proudly hails from Haiti. I’m a sucker for the sun, but only in moderation (keep me far, far away from heat and sweat).

My first interaction with Model UN was with Harvard’s Intercollegiate Model United Nations team in the fall of my freshman year, and I haven’t turned back since. I compete regularly, and I staffed both HMUN and HNMUN as an Assistant Director. Outside of MUN, I serve as the director of outreach for Model Security Council (the recruitment branch of Harvard’s International Relations Council) and the campus outreach director for Harvard College Democrats. When I’m not living my best MUN life, you can find me obsessively rewatching Hamilton, playing Papa’s Freezeria, or doom-scrolling on TikTok with a cold mango passionfruit flavored Celsius in hand.

I look forward to watching each of you in committee. This committee tackles serious cybersecurity issues, and requires delicate diplomacy and strong determination to solve the issues at hand. I value creativity and innovation in your approaches to the committee, and hope that this committee will be an energetic, uplifting, and engaging experience.

Put your thinking caps on, stock up on your notepads, and prepare to be transformed by an unforgettable experience as a Sony Pictures executive.

To saving a helpless Sony Pictures,

Janaysa Dorcin

Director, Sony Board of Directors, 2015

Crisis Director’s Letter

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to Harvard Model United Nations 2025!

My name is Asher Montgomery, I am a rising junior at Harvard College studying Integrative Biology with a secondary in English. I am from Tampa, Florida, where my mom owns a Shuffleboard Bar and my dad lives on a boat. My first MUN experience was in fifth grade where I represented India in the Committee on the Status of Women and had no idea what was going on. I took an eight year hiatus from MUN until joining Harvard's traveling team my freshman year. Last year, I directed a committee on the East Coast/West Coast Hip Hop rivalry which was a blast.

At school, I also cover police and crime for The Crimson, our daily newspaper. I also bartend at the student run pub and lead hikes for freshmen with our first year outdoors program. In my free time, I like playing guitar, having long conversations, running and of course, brainstorming great crisis breaks.

As a movie appreciator, a technology cynic and a fan of heists, I am incredibly honored to serve as the crisis director for the Sony Pictures Board of Directors committee. As delegates, you will navigate maintaining diplomacy during a time of crisis for your company. Through top-secret missions, threats of terrorism, tumultuous customer and employee relations you must work together to keep Sony not only functioning but profitable.

I am so excited for the fun we’re going to have in this committee and looking forward to the creativity and chaos you will cause.

Asher
